Robert Specogna’s talk last week was a real eye-opener learning about the recording industry. The intricacies and the expense of putting together music tracks are immense. We’re happy to hear Robert still enjoys being a part of the music industry without the stress - and we’re also happy to still see him from time to time at Centro CBD.
Our club was well-represented at Mark Felton’s funeral by Jim, Anne, Noel, Gaye, Di Reid and myself. There were many there who had worked with him and had kept in touch. It was clear he was extremely well thought of and loved.
Tonight is a social night at the Steelers from 5.30pm. It will be nice to just sit and chat with no formalities. It’s good to see how many in the club are planning to attend.
Then the following 2 weeks we have some interesting (as always) speakers.
Jim Sargent opened meeting Rose welcomed Robert Specogna and noted it’s Rotary’s 39th meeting at Centro Helen did the international toast and talked on Turkey and the wonderful Turkish people. Istanbul has opened a 7 peace centre taking African refugees. Jim announced this weeks Birthdays: Yvonne Roberts
Bob Armessen
Arthur Booth
Janet Crackenthorpe
Noel updated on the Charles Thursday raffle which raised $450.00 Rose introduced Robert Specogna and noted we have been coming to Centro for meetings since July 2014. Robert talked about his involvement in the music industry having started in the Steel Works in electronics then branched out into the music business. He started Main Street Studios and operated it for nearly 44years. Robert then started a side company called Click Tray which created jingles for advertising and radio. Robert sold his business eventually and bought Centro in 2012 and started promoting music and concerts up stairs.
Robert visited Cuba in January with his wife and told us all about the friendly people and the art deco 50s and 60s cars and buildings. Medical care is also very bad as not enough medical supplies and drugs that can help treat illnesses etc. Lobsters are vey cheap in Cuba as they do not export them. Cuba has wonderful Salsa music groups and lovely cigars.
John presented Robert with a fine pen made by Ken and thanked him for his talk.
The raffle was won by Jim (with his 3 tickets) and Barry.
Fines were given too: Rita, Ken, John and Annette Rose announced social evening on the 30th April at Steelers Club and advised people to arrive by 5.30pm. Mark Felton's funeral was held at Parsons on Thursday 24th April, 2025. Jim closed the meeting at 7.30pm
