President's Message

How good were Barbara Dent’s memories of her life as a marriage celebrant! Such a collection of amazing, funny, sad and happy stories. Barbara is obviously a people person and was very skilled in her work marrying couples. Though retired, she is still full of life and doing volunteer work. Thank
you Di Reid for introducing her to us.

Despite some eager not to miss the start of a certain match, we managed to look at the proposed final donation recipients for this Rotary year. Quite a list when we look at the whole year as well.
Since it was a little rushed, we’ll reconfirm them tonight.

Due to time constraints, I didn’t mention that the 2 signs for the trailer were collected and delivered to Green Connect last week. They look great and will fit well on each side. They’re probably installed by now and we’ll be invited to see the animals being loaded next time and get some photos with members.

Plus, last week the hive at Greenhouse Park was checked and the bees there are thriving.

Preparations are now all in place, thanks to Patrick and Marilyn, for our wonderful Citizenship Ceremony next week. It’s always a very special evening.

I hope everyone is keeping well and all those travelling away have a safe and fun holiday.

Cheers,
President Rose

JIM'S TINS need a New Manager
These tins, known as “Jim’s Tins” are a perfect example of passive income for the club.  Just leave the tins (actually plastic), in a shop or business, by the cashier point of sale.
Ok, it’s not that easy, you need to do the footwork and establish the target stores, get their permission and then chain the tins down (in some retail shops).
I need someone to take over this project, I have about 12 tins, heaps of stickers.  I will gladly assist in the changeover to the lucky winner of the money tin collection project.  Just think of the potential, 12 tins on average would generate $25.00 per three months or $100.00 pa,  that’s in excess of $1,200 net pa.
So who is going to take over this project?
Please contact Jim to discuss.

Last Week’s Meeting Minutes: Scribe – Ray Lee
- Sergeant Patrick introduced President Rose who welcomed all present including speaker Barbara Dent and Noel' friend Gaye Williams.

- Ray Lee reflected on the things that Rotary does locally and around the world because of clubs like ours, with special praise for the work of our Board.

- Ken Potter celebrated the Rotary Club of Ahuriri (Napier NZ).

- Noel reported last week's financials---Joker Draw $355,  Meat Raffle $315.

- Rose outlined funds approved by the Board as below for membership agreement -
DONATIONS APPROVED BY BOARD 21 MAY 2025:
     -Sensory Garden $500
     -Social Circus $6,000
     -Emergency Floods QLD $2,500
-Green Connect Farm - District Grant Remaining  $628
-Rotary Race Day $1,100 (Sponsor a Table of 10)
     -Imagination Library  $1,080
     -The Illawarra WIG Library $2,000
     - SAHSSI Core & Cluster Project $24,000 previously approved.
Note - forward scholarships are covered by retained funds.
Milan pointed out that he did not agree with the decision at Board level to support Flood            Relief as large State and Federal government funds are being put forward. Considerable          discussion ensued.

- Jim's Tins require a new manager- volunteers please!  Contact Jim Christensen.

- Patrick conducted a quick quiz centred around the State of Origin series (Janet says it's rigged).  One answer was Tommy Raudonikis which is quite hard to spell.

- Guest Speaker Barbara Dent was introduced by the lovely Di Reid.
Barbara gave a most entertaining talk on her amazing journey as a marriage celebrant. The
stories were extraordinary! She is a most incredible lady who sports her 86 years with vigour and vitality.

Wine raffle winners were Noel Watt and Ken Potter.

- Patrick closed the meeting, mercifully withholding his normal jokes, at 7.45 pm.
