President's Message

It was very nice to see so many members at last week’s meeting, with the early start providing a great way to catch up and have a good ole chinwag.

Further to our discussion regarding our two District Grant applications, I am pleased confirm that the Women Illawarra Project has been approved to its full value and will get underway shortly. The Interplast application, due to over-subscription, was not submitted for
consideration.

Thank you to everyone for their input in the decision for our Rotary Club to conduct the Charity Race Day at Kembla Grange Racecourse. The date has now been set for Saturday, 12 September 2026. Organisation of the event will start shortly.

We had a full roster for the BBQ last Sunday. Thank you to all who volunteered and braved the heat of the day. The results of the BBQ will be announced at this week’s meeting.

At our board meeting last week a few items were discussed and resolved:
- We await a date for a Rotary information stand at the Friday Farmers Markets in
       Wollongong Mall.
- We will produce a RCWW business card to hand out at the markets and other                     RCWW events.
- A clean up will be arranged for Throsby Park when the weather cools a little.
- We are looking at participating in Wollongong Council’s Rise & Shine cleanup events.
- Unfortunately, we did not have candidates for recent RYLA & NYSF events.

This week’s guest speaker is none other than our own Kevin Wanambiro who will be talking on ‘Radiology Today’, which should prove to be very interesting.

I look forward to seeing you all at the meeting.

Cheers,
President Phil

Last Week’s Meeting Minutes: Scribe – Rose Pope

  • After a very pleasant courtyard drink and chat, the meeting was opened by Sergeant Patrick at 6.18pm.
  • To check if everyone was paying attention, Patrick altered the usual format and called on announcements first.
  • Ray reported he’s waiting to hear when PCYC breakfasts will recommence
  • Ray asked if any members were interested in attending a wine tasting organised by the Lions Club of Figtree. Proceeds will go to the Lions Carinya Project for the Salvation Army for victims of domestic violence.
  • Rose’s Reflection looked at significant events which occurred on this day in history but finished with it’s being International Hugging Day - a day for showing care for others - and proposed a toast to Rotarians who do this every day.
  • Ken’s International Toast was to the Rotary Club 10254 in the District 1047 in Nuuk Greenland whose main project was the restoration of an old chuch in a deserted village.
  • Bob requested replies for our social night on 4th Feb at Woonona Bulli RSL. Jim will be a “surprise” guest speaker!
  • Michael sadly reported that our ARH PhD Scholarship recipient Thanapon has withdrawn from the course.
  • Dennis explained a future restructure of our Thursday and Friday raffles at the Charles Hotel. This will start after the current joker is drawn.
  • Rose reported on the progress of the Anglicare Eileen Armstrong House Sensory Garden towards which we made a donation last year.
  • Rose thanked all members who have volunteered for the BBQ on Sunday.
  • President Phil spoke of the success of our District Grant applications. However the exact allocation is being looked into due to conflicting information.
  • Phil also explained that the Race Day will no longer be a combined clubs event. A productive discussion ensued which culminated in members voting to run one ourselves this year. Apart from a dedicated committee, all members will be needed to help boost numbers to make it a fun and profitable major project for our club.
  • Marilyn and Patrick were the lucky winners of a bottle each of an (award-winning?) wine.

  • Patrick’s joke brought more impressive laughter than moans. Well done Patrick.
  • The very enjoyable and informative meeting closed at 7.25pm.
