The meeting was called to order by the sergeant at 6:14 pm.
President Phil extended a warm welcome to Mr. Ken Jackson, Rotarian from Wollongong Central; and to the guest speaker for the evening, Andrew Gee.
For the International toast, Kevin took the opportunity to highlight the works of the Rotary Club of Bali Seminyak. This club has diverse projects in humanitarian work, education and health. It is one of the few clubs in the area that conducts its business in English. The roster is mainly filled up by expatriates.
Kevin proceeded to reflect on the mythology of the legendary phoenix bird that rose from the ashes. Special mention was given to the conflicts currently engulfing the globe - hopefully this will end soon. The affected communities will then have to rebuild.
Phil reported on the recent successful barbecue.
Thanks to all those who were able to volunteer.
Next barbecue is scheduled for Easter Monday.
Rotary community leaders and pride of workmanship nominations are open and members were urged to submit their nominees.
Following the meals, Bob introduced the guest speaker, Andrew Gee. Andrew, a career librarian with a stellar career, then gave an amazing presentation on what the Wollongong library has to offer to the community. The range of services were noted to be quite diverse. A demonstration of the library app was also given. Members had lots of questions to which Andrew gave extensive answers.
Annette gave a vote of thanks to the speaker. She presented a handmade pen by one of our members, Mr. Ken Porter.
The eagerly awaited raffle took place as usual. The president holding ticket #1 took home a red wine bottle. Marilyn then took home the white wine, amazingly using ticket #2.
Sergeant John then closed the meeting with a poem reading from an Australian war stories collection. He then presented the book to Ken as a present.
