President's Message

Our pre-dinner drinks meetings are always a great way to catch up with fellow members and have a good yarn. We had a few members away with health issues and wish them all a speedy recovery. The joke of the night had to go to Anne Christensen (sorry John E), which I can’t repeat here, but all at her table who were all in stitches will know what I mean. Good one Annie!!

At last week’s Board meeting;
- Updates were received from Ros Yeoman on the Sri Lankan school project, which is progressing nicely. We await suggestions on possible projects from Ros’s contact in Sri Lanka and hope to have more information in the coming weeks.
- The board has decided to support the Wollongong Police Station Awards by offering $1,000 for the various award categories. We should also have a representative on the award selection panel. Aiming to further our relationship with our local police, we are
looking at booking a table of 10 for the awards ceremony. Tickets are $100 per person. Please let Kerrie know if you are interested in attending.
- Our Revenue and Donations Budget vs Actual progress was discussed. This will be presented to all members at our Club Assembly.

On that note, our Club Assembly is coming up on 29 April. Please give some thought to the items you would like to discuss relating to the operation of our Club.

Our next BBQ is on Monday 4 May at Bunnings Kembla Grange. Kindly register your availability through the ClubRunner app or email Rose directly.

A reminder to all that Di North is looking for volunteers for the Red Shield Appeal collection on Saturday 30 May at Fred Finch Park Netball Courts, Berkeley. Volunteers are needed for various shifts from 8am until 4pm. Please contact Di directly if you are able to assist.

This week’s guest speaker is Penny Hoswell from the Wollongong  City Council Green Team for what should be a very informative presentation.

I look forward to seeing you all there.

Cheers,
President Phil

Last week's Meeting Minutes - Scribe Bob Armessen

After pleasant pre-meeting drinks, and enjoying Ray and Jane’s visit, Sgt John
convened at 6:15 pm with Pres. Phil welcoming all members.

Bob’s reflection then had us all enthralled before Albert proposed a toast to the
Rotary Club of Athens, the first such club in Greece and the Balkans.

Jim called for nominations for Pride of Workmanship Awards and explained why
Anne is now his go-to snake-catcher.

He then disrupted proceedings by presenting Anzac Day items as an instant Legacy
project. Good project Jim. Pres. Phil then :

 - detailed project Art For Peace … an R. I. initiative whereby youths get
involved in a school art project with prizes for artwork representing peace.
 - Reminded us that the Red Shield is on May 30th at Fred Finch Park and Di is
calling for volunteers. If you can assist, please give Di a call directly..
 - Advised that Dennis is on an influenza sick list and that Milan is soon
undergoing a planned procedure in hospital.

Noel then conducted the wine raffle; due to Janet’s blindness the first win went
to Jim, then Rose pulled her own ticket to take out 2nd prize. The general agreement was that both winners should be swabbed.

Prior to closing the meeting at 7:05 pm Sgt John did a short fine session
accompanied by reading out a couple of “jokes”. He didn’t take too kindly to the
suggestion that he should donate the book to the next Lifeline Big Book Fair.
