Recovery Camp -
our speaker this week, Tracey Gleaves will discuss Recovery Camp

     President's Message

Thank you to all who attended and contributed to last week's Club Assembly. We covered a fair range of topics, with members providing valuable feedback and suggestions.

Importantly the various suggestions put forward for our club's District Grant applications were presented and discussed. The Board of Directors met immediately following the meeting and decided on two District Grant submissions.
  1. Women Illawarra in support of their program for women at risk of homelessness for one year, assisting up to 120 women.
  2. Interplast in support of purchasing medical equipment for their surgical mission to Samoa in November this year.
I am sure all members will agree these are both very worthy programs and our club is proud to support them.

Thank you to Helen Hasan for completing the necessary paperwork to sign-off on last year's District Grant for the Green Connect Farm trailer & signage.

Tonight, we are happy to welcome Tracey Gleaves as our guest presenter from Recovery Camp, in what should prove to be a very informative presentation. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Cheers,
President Phil

Last Week’s Meeting: Scribe – Kevin Were Wanambiro

  • The meeting was called to order by sergeant Jim at 6:15 pm.

  • Kevin delivered the reflection appreciating low points in life. Highs and lows are a factor of life. We shouldn't be so disillusioned by the low points as they are an opportunity for growth.

  • The meals were then served, and we enjoyed a sumptuous serving of steak with mashed potatoes and veggies.

  • Kate then delivered the international toast. She pointed out the works of Rotary club of Oak Bay in British Columbia, Canada. This club with 50 members meets on Tuesdays at 12:15 pm. They participate and support numerous local and international projects including the Malawi school for girls, two projects in Rwanda, a water and nutrition project in Guatemala, and a project at the University of Victoria, 3D printing prosthetic limbs for low income and conflict-affect populations.

  • Ann informed us that Carol and family had decided to put Arthur in care. Arthur is currently at the Wollongong Hospital as they look at all the best options for him.

  • Regarding the raffle at the Charles hotel, Dennis delivered another bountiful result. The Joker draw is still on having netted a tidy sum on Thursday. The Friday raffle was also very successful. Woohoo! Members were encouraged to show up, but they are not eligible for the Joker draw.

  • President Phil reported on the upcoming barbecue in Crown Street mall. Janet, Narelle and Annette are scheduled to participate. It will last approximately 3 hours, and 200 sausages will potentially be sizzled. Kick off will be at 10 o'clock.

  • President Phil noted most members had already submitted their club dues. The few members yet to were encouraged to do so before Friday.

  • Sergeant Jim reported that we currently have 6 nominations for the Pride of Workmanship award. More nominations are welcome.

  • The meeting proceeded to Club Assembly at 6:38pm.

  • Immediately after the Club Assembly, we had the wine raffle drawn by Jim who threatened to quit if he did not win. He had two goes at it, drawing tickets 61 and 62. Ken and Marylin were the deserved winners. Jim has not quit despite the earlier intentions.

  • The meeting was adjourned at 7:41 pm.
  • Our wine raffle winners were Marilyn and Ken, pictured below.

Centre for Missing Persons

Some of our members braved the elements in support of the Centre for Missing Persons by setting up and manning a BBQ on Saturday morning in the Crown Street Mall. Lord Mayor Tania Brown and Member for Cunningham Alison Byrnes were in attendance for this first of kind Missing Persons awareness campaign.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't that cooperative, so the anticipated numbers to attend the event were less than expected. A similar event is being planned in the near future, hopefully with better weather and which, we hope, to again support.

Many thanks to Dennis, Janet, Annette, Narelle and Ros & Paul Yeoman for their support.
