A Different Location for This Week's Meeting Corrimal RSL Suite 168
Presidents Message
A bit of a mixed-up dinner-meeting due to the necessary change of venue. A shame only 13 members could attend but overall, an excellent result. Thanks Rose, Phil, and Sgt Dennis.
A different and very informative visit by DG Shane in that we were the receivers of Rotary information rather than givers. More detail on regionalisation and what we can expect; many things, but no reduction in operating costs
A major theme was that while clubs will always be autonomous within the Rotary framework, we should endeavour to co-join with other clubs in our respective RCGs.
Looking forward to our mini-changeover night next week including what will be a very interesting presentation by our guest speaker.
Until then, all the best to members local, and also to those currently assisting the various overseas economies.
Last Week’s Meeting Minutes:Scribe – Kevin Wanambiro
The meeting was held at Corrimal RSL.
President Bob called the meeting to order and welcomed the District Governor who had joined for the night. He also noted that the rotary theme for the month was education and literacy.
The weekly reflection was delivered by Kevin. He reflected on the enormous task facing the healthcare workers in Fiji as they deal with the emerging HIV/AIDS burden in the country. Fiji currently has the fastest HIV spread in the world.
The International toast was delivered by Michael who recognised the rotary club of Calcutta for their role in serving the community.
Michael also provided a welfare report on behalf of Ann. He indicated that Arthur was stable and still remembers all of us. He has recently welcomed a great grandchild via his daughter.
Phil gave a report concerning a barbeque held last monday where we had a bumper harvest.
Dennis reported on the latest Jag the Joker raffle outing at The Charles Hotel where some of the locals had returned and a good result was acheived.
Members were encouraged to sign up for the upcoming fundraising events on club runner. We have BBQs on Monday 19 October and Sunday 1 November. Both to be held at Bunnings Kembla Grange and both available to sign up to on Club Runner.
We then had an opportunity to hear from the District Governor. In his enlightening address, Mr Shane Burette touched on the ongoing redistricting program, rotary foundation, his tour of duty in Timor Leste, the Shelter Box Charity and the upcoming Rotary International Conference in Barcelona, Spain. Members had lots of questions for the governor which he ably tackled to our satisfaction.
Unfortunately, there was no wine raffle but on a positive note, fines were postponed until the next meeting. And we had good reason for a fine this week.
PP Jim Christensen catching up on his socials while a line of hungry customers patiently waited to be served at this week's BBQ. Nothing like great customer service Young Jimmy :-)
President Bob brought the meeting to a close at 1952 hrs.
