Last Week’s Meeting Minutes: Scribe – Marilyn Phillips
Meeting number 25 was opened by Sergeant John Erickson at 6:15pm. John then introduced President Phil Peckman. Phil welcomed all members and Sam Armesson to the meeting.
Reflection was given by Marilyn Phillips to the people affected by the Bondi Terror attack. May they find a way to recover and heal from this tragedy.
International Toast was given by Rose Pope to the Rotary Club of Warsaw, Poland.
Announcements
Phil stated all financials are up to date. Mega Rotary meeting on 24th January at 9:30pm.
Rotary Club of Corrimal is having a Scavenger Hunt at Don's Farm.
First Social Night is 4th February; Bob Armesson will organise and the details will be forthcoming.
BBQ on Monday (12th) - A hard object/foreign body was found in a sausage at the BBQ. Investigations attended by Dennis Simpson at Illawarra Meats. All processes are automated so it could not have been in the sausage.
Rose thanked the 8 members who attended the schools and presented the Citizenship Awards. Two schools asked for someone to speak about Rotary and 1 thank you was received. Rose also gave a summary of the takings at the BBQ on Monday. Next BBQ is Sunday 25th January. Details will be on Clubrunner. Rose also asked if anyone would like to volunteer for the Wheelchair Race in Sydney on Monday 26th January. Please contact Rose for further details.
Anne gave gifts to any member who was unable to attend the Christmas party.
Kerrie had an email from a person with medical equipment to donate. John referred her to the Cancer Carers Association.
Guest Speaker Mr Bob Armesson OAM was introduced by John Erickson. Bob reflected on his life in Australia. Born on Good Friday 600km outside Paris on the Brittany coast, travelled with his family to Australia in early 50's, and became an Australian citizen in March 1959. He spent 5 years at boarding school; then went to Sydney to study at TAFE, but was not inclined to study; so came back to Wollongong to work for his father. From there he moved into the finance world and worked for many years. Married his wife Sam 56 years ago and had two children. Became a member of Corrimal Apex in 1993 and joined Rotary in 1994, becoming a valued member organising 15 containers of equipment to be sent to various Pacific countries in need of assistance.
