Thank You Rose for being such a wonderful President.

Presidents Message

As I write my last President’s message, I reflect on the year. I’m also reading over our draft annual report and marvel at our achievements and all the photos of happy members and events. It’s a difficult task trying to put together my Changeover presentation because there are so many to thank and so many activities to highlight.

Last Thursday I attended the final District Presidents’ Meeting and feel that our District team is working very hard as always and that DGE Renga Rajan and his team plus the Regionalisation Committee members have many positive ideas and plans for the coming year. These will be discussed at a meeting in the new year.

Our Illawarra clubs are working well together, as well as individually, and I wish all Rotarians and of course our new Board and President Phil Peckman another excellent year.

Let’s enjoy our Changeover celebrations tonight!

Yours in Rotary
President Rose

Last Week’s Meeting Minutes: Scribe – Marilyn Phillips
  • After pre-meeting drinks were complete, Meeting number 47 was opened by Jim Christensen at 6:15pm. Jim introduced President Rose Pope who welcomed all members.

  • Reflection was given by Marilyn Phillips. It was International Midwives Day last week so tonight we will reflect on the good work midwives provide throughout the world.

  • International Toast was given by Ken Potter. Ken toasted the Rotary Club of Las Vegas in USA. Chartered in 1923 with 140 members. The Club meets at Lawry’s Prime Rib Restaurant at noon. The Club has a lot of interest similar to our Club and has a major interest in youth projects.

  • Rose announced that the RI President Elect from Brazil, has resigned and Francesco Arezzo from Ragusa, Italy will replace him. He is the third Italian to lead the global network.)

Rose announced from Noel that the Thursday and Friday nights at the Charles had very good results.

  • Phil reported on the BBQ situation. Milan has stepped down as BBQ chair and Janet will consider taking up the position. Phil presented some information on funds raised from BBQ’s on Mondays and weekends. Phil stated that Bunnings Kembla Grange runs BBQs every day except Tuesday.

Phil also discussed our current situation with Peta Paramore from Bunnings and said we have three possible options.
  1. Stay on Mondays (that means 1 BBQ every 4 weeks=13 /year).
  2. Move to Friday (which means 1 BBQ every 6-7 weeks=7-8 /year).
  3. Just do weekends (~ 2 per year).

Phil discussed the profit from each option. Other options discussed with Peta are, there is no requirement to do the full 8 hours on weekdays. We can choose the hours we operate within reason. There is an option to do a cake stall in conjunction with the BBQs. These options were presented to Club members and discussions proceeded.

The Members decided to continue with the Monday BBQs and look for other options for fund raising.

Other things discussed were the fridges, freezer, the trailer and the storage of all the equipment. Resulting in Janet and Phil to store the fridges, Ken to sell the freezer and the trailer will be sold. Phil to arrange the transfer of equipment and stock from Milan.
  • Rose congratulated all members involved with the Citizenship Ceremony for another successful event. Michael received 2 thank you notes from our New Citizens for the lovely photos he takes each year and distributes to them. This is a first for Michael and we are pleased to see him recognised for his efforts.

  • Rose also announced there is a cleanup event by Corrimal Rotary Club on Thursday and on Saturday at Cabbage Tree Creek.  If any member would like to join contact Rose.

  • City to Surf is on the 10th August. The Management have asked for volunteers and will pay the Club $100/person. Contact Rose if you would like to volunteer.

  • Janet Crackanthorp and Di North will represent the Club at the Indigenous Scholar's Dinner on Tuesday 22/7/25.

  • Club Changeover is next week. Rose requires numbers and payment by this Friday 20/6/25.

  • The Wine Raffle was presented by Janet, and the winners were Jim and Rose (pictured below). Marilyn was such a studious scribe.

  • Rosters were announced for the coming week.

  • Jim Christensen conducted the fine session, and the meeting Closed 7:35pm
