For a small group of only 10 at last week's meeting, we certainly managed to discuss quite a range of topics about our club.
Discussion took place on possible new Fund-Raising Ideas, Membership, Community Engagement and Rotary Engagement. Thank you to all who took part, and we look forward to hearing from the committee formed to investigate new fund-raising ideas. Thank you, Mike & Annette, for volunteering to look into new possibilities.
Not a lot to report on the Rotary or Club front this week. Green Connect will be holding a native beehive splitting demonstration this coming Sunday Morning, 12 October at their farm, 6 Anna Avenue, Warrawong from 10:30AM to 12:00PM. Registrations are required to attend via this link;
This week's quest speaker is Thanapon Deekaikam, our ARH PhD Research Scholar and his UOW Supervisor Dr Zhilian Yue. This week is also our ARH HAT DAY in aid of mental health research; partners and friends are more than welcome and encouraged to attend.
Sergeant Dennis welcomed members to a very small meeting of 10 members, probably the smallest ever.
Noel's Reflection - Past Rotary meeting attendance rules in the past required that members attended a weekly Rotary Club at least 75% of the time and at least 60% of that at their home Club, contrasting to the current very flexible attendance with no restrictions.
Michael's International Toast to RAWCS reminded members that October is Rotary’s Economic and Community Development Month. Rotarians promote this theme through various projects ranging from providing people with equipment to vocational training, particularly in impoverished communities.
Our Club has been involved with numerous international activities through RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service). Since its inception 59 years ago, RAWCS has contributed greater than half a billion Australian dollars in aid, benefiting hundreds of people across 45 countries.
Sergeant Dennis, in Anne’s absence, announced that Barry has had excellent results from his recent scans and his treatment is continuing.
Sergeant Dennis announced the outstanding results from the Charles hotel joker draw with only 2 cards remaining.
Ken advised that the next RYDA day will be the 17th October.
Michael announced that next week's guest speaker will be Thanapon Deekaikam, our UOW PhD Scholarship recipient and one of his supervisors, Dr. Zhilian Yue. Michael highlighted it is Australian Rotary Health’s (ARH) HAT DAY and partners are most welcome.
Annette advised that Ruth, who attended last week's meeting, is a potential member. Annette also spoke of the possibility of having a Rotary promotion stall at the Wollongong Crown Street Friday markets, also there may be an opportunity for Rotary promotion during National Volunteer Week next year.
President Phil conducted a discussion about fundraising; a few points of discussion were:
- Car Shows
- Duck races
- Corporate Memberships
- Ideas from RDU Magazine
- Kembla Grange Race Day may not happen next year.
- It was decided to set up a small committee to investigate and report back.
There will be Bee Splitting Hives on the Sunday 12th October at Green Connect. Registrations are required to attend.
10th December will be our Christmas Party.
Phil thanked members for the BBQ on the 5 October for filling a full roster.
