2025 Peace Oration
PEACE ORATION 2025
Each year, the Rotary Club of West Wollongong organises a Peace Oration,
a FREE event for Rotarians and the General Public.
The 2025 peace oration was presented by Dr Glenn Kolomeitz on the topic:
Taming the Bear: Peace in Ukraine at What Price?
The presentation considered the prospects of a lasting peace through the parallel lenses of the terms of a negotiated peace settlement, the veracity of Putin’s commitment to peace, and NATO’s force posture and reimagined European security needs in what many believe will be a prolonged period of Russian hostility. The question underpinning the presentation was whether the price paid in taming the bear will merely serve to feed its aggression.
As a humanitarian organisation, peace is a cornerstone of Rotary's mission. We believe when people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect.
