Rotary (Arthur's) Park Tidy Up
Oct 11, 2026 9:00 am - 10:30 am
Thank you to those who have volunteered to help tidy up the park. The weather looks like it will be perfect .
Bob will probably be there at the crack of dawn but he says 9am start will be good. It should only take an hour or so to fill the trailer. Then we'll have a snack and a chat as usual.
There's been no mention of coffee and cake this time, but I'll bring the usual slices. Bring a hat, gloves and water bottle.
Cheers
Rose
-----------------------------------------

Hello Members and Friends,
Bob and I - weather permitting - are looking at a clean up of our park next Sunday. The idea would be to clear rubbish and weeds and trim the groundcover. The latter would need something like a hedge trimmer. Does anyone have one?
Could you let me know if you can spare an hour or so from about 9am please? We'll endeavour to have some morning tea as usual to savour and chat as we survey the results of our labour.
We probably only need about 5 people. Anyone unable to work can still come along, supervise and/or take photos.
After the cleanup, we hope to look at how we can improve the area.
Thank you
Kind regards
Rose

World Polio Day & Train Ride
Oct 22, 2026

Each year on 24 October, Rotary and Rotaract clubs around the world join with our partners, health organizations, and public health advocates to mark World Polio Day. You have a critical role in this by hosting events and activities to increase awareness about polio and raise funds toward eradicating it. To build on the success of last year, we need your help!

The Illawarra Train Ride will take place on Thursday, 22 October 2026.

We will have morning tea in Kiama and lunch in Bomaderry. Wear your End Polio Shirt and/or cap if you have them. You can purchase t-shirts and caps from Rotary Down Under (RDU) if you would like.

Blue Helmut - A UN Peacekeeper in South Sudan

Feb 24, 2027 6:30 pm

Edward H. Carpenter is a retired lieutenant colonel who served with the US Marines in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Japan. He deployed with the UN in South Sudan as Chief of Policy and Plans for the mission’s 14,000 peacekeepers.

With firsthand experience of the futility of war and the importance of effective peacebuilding, he has authored numerous articles on the topic, and his latest book  Blue Helmet: My Year as a UN Peacekeeper in South Sudan documents how well-intentioned peacekeeping still fails to protect the most vulnerable.

Edward holds advanced degrees from Harvard University, the University of Melbourne, and the Naval Postgraduate School, and previously served as a military professor at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies. Since retiring from military service, he has continued his work advancing the cause of peace as founding director of the nonprofit organization World Without War, (https://worldwithout.org/) which is focused on ending humanity’s most destructive institution.
